Randy and Kevin had been friends since play school. Neither had known about the super powers the other possesed, but by the end of the summer there would be nary a secret between them.
It all started, as these things usually do, with a girl. The kind of girl that makes the world seem new again, the kind of girl that could turn best friends against each other, the kind of girl who could drive you to do things you never thought possible.
Her name was Wendy, but eventually the world would know her as Whisper. To most, she appeared quite plain like the girl next door. She was often not noticed as she blended into the background well.
Her hair often unkempt and messy, clothes two sizes too big, and eye glass rims that did anything but assist her physical features. But that smile... could light an entire room for hours.
Randy and Kevin first encounter with Wendy occurred on a bright, albeit humid July evening. You could feel the heat from the day still lingering in the air. It was as if each breath drawn in was of warmer air than the exhalation it produced. Randy consistently dabbed his sleeve against his perspiring forehead while he attempted to keep up to Kevin, who was walking briskly ahead with narrowed eyes and half clenched fists as if he was on a mission.
"Kev! Could ya slow down a sec?" huffed Randy.
"It's got to be here somewhere," Kevin muttered underneath his breath while his eyes searched along a group of approaching bushes and trees.
His words were barely audible, however this quite intrigued Randy whom had no clue they were looking for something in the first place.
Kevin's eyes darted left and right as quick as he knelt down and began digging with his hands in the rough ground, all the while muttering to himself.
"Alright!" Demanded Randy as he finally caught up. "What the hell are you looking for?"
"My dream.." Spoke Kevin with a soft proclamation. "It just had to be real"
"What dream?" Snapped Randy, with an obviously frustrated tone in his voice.
As Kevin's hands revealed a small sliver box within the moist dirt, he smiled, looked up and said; "Things will change my friend, you'll see.... You'll see."
